What it Means to be #EachforEqual
March 8 marks International Women’s Day, a day to celebrate the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. This day focuses attention on the future in creating a more gender-equal world that enables more women to lead and succeed. Fittingly, that’s the theme of International Women’s Day 2020: #EachforEqual.
#EachforEqual was born from the idea that each person’s actions can have an impact on society at large. Through mentoring women, advocating for each other, and advancing their causes, we can give women a seat at the table in boardrooms, governments, workplaces and more.
As a woman-owned business, this isn’t just something that Curry Real Estate Services supports on March 8; it permeates into everything that we do.
“I have always believed that women need to be each other’s biggest supporters,” said Ellen Todd, president and CEO of Curry Real Estate Services. “Kansas City is ripe with opportunities for women to get involved in the community and to support other women leaders. To me, that’s what being #EachforEqual is all about.”
Todd herself is a fan of several local organizations aimed at developing, connecting and educating women leaders, including CREW KC and the Kansas City Business Journal’s Women Who Mean Business. Those two organizations and others have allowed Todd to collaborate with like-minded women and serve as a mentor for the next generation of women leaders. Todd was inducted into the Kansas City Business Journal’s Women Who Mean Business Class of 2009, a yearly recognition of women business leaders.
“I have met so many accomplished women through Women Who Mean Business,” said Todd. “Having the opportunity to connect with others in my class and the other 20 years of classes has enriched my experience as a business owner.”
Todd also encourages her team to get involved in their communities and to support each other’s leadership endeavors.
“It is a great feeling to be a part of a company that not only believes in your ability to succeed, but that supports you every step of the way,” said Brynn McCan, Curry’s vice president of executive administration. “When I became involved and stepped into leadership at Synergy Services, and later in the Northland Leadership 2.0 class, my Curry co-workers did what they could to support me and the organizations.” Curry Real Estate Services is #EachforEqual not just on International Women’s Day, but every day.
