Curry Completes Makeover of Synergy Services Domestic Violence Shelter’s Outdoor Space

by Suzanne Licata

Employees from Curry Real Estate Services,  a full-service commercial real estate broker and property management company,  recently donated their time and resources  to  prepare, landscape and completely makeover  the outdoor space for spring at SafeHaven, Synergy Services’ domestic violence shelter.

More than 35 Curry employees traded in their suits and briefcases for shovels and power tools as they spent their work day on tasks ranging from outdoor maintenance to yard beautification enhancement projects. Employees removed dead trees and debris from the property, mulched, planted flowers, weeded the garden,  fixed fences, painted a fire lane and moved in new patio tables, chairs and benches for shelter guests. The result of nearly 100 hours of combined donated time was a completely overhauled outdoor space.

“The community’s support of Synergy Services is amazing,” said Brynn McCan, vice president of executive administration at Curry Real Estate Services. “With the overwhelming amount of needs that Synergy Services has, yard maintenance and landscaping sometimes gets put at the bottom of the list. Curry wanted to do its part in supporting Synergy Services, and with summer right around the corner, the yard was a great project for us to tackle.”

Investment in the community in which it serves is core to Curry’s values. When McCan, who also is the chair of Synergy Services’ 28th Annual Kindest Kansas Citian Awards, visited the shelter and learned there was a need to beautify and makeover the outdoor common area, Curry claimed the undertaking as its annual service project. Supporting a Northland organization that gives back to the community was the perfect fit for Curry as a family-owned business in the Northland since 1924.

In addition to Curry Real Estate volunteers, this project was possible thanks to donations from Zipco, BC Hardscapes, Sharp Landscaping, Mike Siebolt, McConnell & Associates and Arch Roofing.

“Projects like this help to show residents that the community is behind them and make them feel loved,” said Robin Winner, executive director of Synergy Services. “Residents now have a beautiful outdoor space that provides them with a peaceful and healing atmosphere. We are truly grateful to Curry Real Estate Services for beautifying our outdoor space.”

Curry also donated items including umbrellas, sunscreen, toys, diapers and more to the shelter to ensure guests had summer essentials on-hand.  Synergy Services is always in need of supplies such as personal hygiene necessities and household products.
