Curry VP receives “Royal” Treatment
Curry Real Estate Service’s Mike Sweeney, vice president in its commercial real estate division, sported his World Series ring, and baseball tie, following a celebration that honored the Royal Lancers on September 12.
After 22 years as a dedicated Royal Lancer, life-long Royals fan Mike Sweeney received the ultimate honor – a World Series ring to commemorate his time with the team.
Sweeney, senior vice president in Curry’s commercial real estate division, and 11 other Lancers were recognized by The Kansas City Royals at a dinner before the September 12, 2016 home game against the Oakland Athletics. David Glass, owner of the Royals, thanked the group for their service to the team and individually presented each with their own personalized World Series ring.
The Lancers began in the early 1970s when Ewing Kauffman decided to recruit members of the community to support the team by selling season tickets. Over the years, this team of dedicated Royals supporters grew to a group of 100 goodwill ambassadors working to meet sales goals even during the most difficult seasons.
In recent years, the Royals decided not to add to the team of Lancers or replace those who leave the program. The 12 Lancers that remain continue to enjoy their supporting role in season ticket sales.
“It was truly such an honor to be recognized in this way.” said Sweeney. “I would not change a thing about my time supporting the team and the city and am so grateful to have been a part of last year’s incredible World Series win.”
